(MGO) - As of the third week of November 2021, the construction of the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway has achieved 69.93%, with the construction process faster than planned and expected to be completed before September 2022. This was confirmed by Mr. Heang Sotheayut, Director of the Department of Information Technology and Public Relations and spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.
He added that HE Sun Chanthol is negotiating with the company that invest in this road to allow people to test drive on this road to understand the condition of the road before it is officially launched with pay. He said that if negotiations are approved by the Chinese investment side, the road will be able to allow people to test drive by the end of 2022 when the construction of this road is completed.
According to the plan, the expressway from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville will be completed in September 2022 after the construction site opened on March 22, 2019, with the investment of the China Bridge and Road Corporation from China through the Cambodian PPSHV Expressway Co., Ltd about $ 2 billion and a grant from the Chinese government about $ 150 million.
The first expressway project in Cambodia has a total length of more than 190 kilometers from Sangkat Samrong Krom, Khan Por Sen Chey, Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville, with a width of 24.5 meters and paving 10 centimeters thick of AC concrete. The lane is divided into four lanes, which allows all types of vehicles to drive at speeds of up to 100 km per hour and some places can drive at speeds of up to 120 km per hour.
