Phnom Penh (MGO) – 79 Cambodian doctors who completed a one-year internships at hospitals in France are returning home. On January 13, 2022, the French Embassy to Cambodia hosted a celebration ceremony for those who had completed their internship.
This ceremony was attended by many people who work in the health sector, which is an opportunity to highlight the important role of doctors who have been at the frontline of the fight against Covid-19.
On that occasion, the French Ambassador to Cambodia, Jacques Pellet, reminded the importance of cooperation between France and Cambodia in the health sector to be more meaningful in the current context of the Covid-19 crisis.
Since 1996, more than 900 Cambodian medical and pharmaceutical students have continued their studies in France to pursue various medical disciplines within the DFMS / A Framework Program (Diploma in Advanced Medical / Advanced Medicine). Of the 44 countries, Cambodia ranks fourth of countries sending students to study health in France.
In addition to training, France also provides support for medical research in Cambodia by providing assistance to projects and sending professional staff to complement work in Cambodia such as an expert of ANRS Agency (French national agency for health research).
France is also the second-largest donor to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, providing at least $ 108 million in assistance to Cambodia for the years 2021-2023.
